Mike Kelly (30) first began mixing with turntablist and raver friends in 1993. Initially driven by Sydney´s vibrant underground house and rave scene, his approach to music and mixing continually matures, influenced by a massive array of experienced artists, places, and musical movements. The past, present and future all exist in his sets.
Mike´s audio taste spectrum is eclectic; his mixing energetic; his style a hybrid fusion of progressive, house, tech, tribal, electro, trance, minimal, disco, and breaks - the kind that makes you dance the skin off your feet!
Musically, he attempts fusion in orgy, as hypnotic melodies interweave; sexy bass-lines propel the energy forward; sensual-spatial environments encompass the air; romantic imagery warm the soul, and his turntablist skills (decks & fx) heighten the intensity.
In his hometown (Sydney), Mike has played to massive crowds at Sydney's Mardi Gras party 7 of the last 8 years - one of few underground DJs to be regularly selected. His main headline residency was at Indulgence (2003-2005), and he also was resident at various hotspots including Manacle, The Barracks, Mars, Soho, Home, and Lookin´ Good events. MK also created his own club nights and managed outdoor events for up to 8000 guests (1999-2005).
In Australia, he´s regularly toured to Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle and Lismore, to play at Family, 4x4, The Market, and Australia´s largest bent NYE gathering (Tropical Fruits).
Mike presented radio shows on Sydney radio 2SER, BEAT and OUT FM (1996-2001). More recently his DJ sets have been featured on premier Australian dance music sessions MIX UP and THE CLUB (Triple J), as well as BluRadio (Berlin) and Club Maximale (Paris). MK was DJ and Dance Music Correspondent for SX National magazine (2003-2005) before heading overseas. He currently presents weekly Sorry Shoes Radio shows on Taggart Music (Hawaii), and We Love House (Frankfurt).
Internationally, Mike first explored EU from 2000 playing in London (The End, Heaven, Playtime and Fingerlickin´s Bar Vinyl), and in Berlin (GMF). In 2005, Mike moved to Germany on a musical exploration tour. He followed only the sounds which penetrated deeper than his ears.
Mike's sound and mixing styles developed extra dimensions (spatiality, sensuality, and smooth precision). In this voyage of sound he sought a travelling community of bohemian future-music lovers...and found them.
After just 6 months, he was invited to be resident of Cologne´s illustrious progressive club Greenkomm, as well as the hottest new event in Brussels (Naughty). Since then he has been asked to perform widely across Western Europe and even Israel.
Highlights include: Space Of Sound and Europe Pride (Madrid), Amnesia (Milan), Love Parade (Dortmund), Gorgeous (Rome), Canal Pride (Amsterdam), Love Ball (Brussels and Barcelona), Circuit Festival (Barcelona), and Cap San Diego (Hamburg).
Mike Kelly now resides in Cologne, ever excited by his residencies Greenkomm and Night Control. Mike is a regular at the famous CSD street party - in 2009, performing live-remix sets with guitarist Nono. He currently also resident DJ at UC (Frankfurt), Naughty (Brussels), Mecx (Paris), Furball (Amsterdam), Mezzo Giorno (Antwerp), and Indulgence (Sydney).
